Legal Practice Course

Part of our Directory of legal education in the UK, this page includes information about the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the vocational course for law graduates intending to become solicitors.

The purpose of the LPC is to ensure that aspiring solicitors have the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake appropriate tasks during the training contract.

The course may be taken in three ways – full time, part time or by distance learning. For further information and details of providers see the Legal Practice Course page on the Solicitors Regulation Authority website, which also includes reports on courses, or the Law Careers.net course search page.

AllAboutLaw’s LPC section includes profiles of the providers and a range of articles about becoming a solicitor, while QED Law publishes information about LPC pass rates at each of the providers.

The LPC is changing

Following an extensive review process new requirements for the course will become mandatory from September 2010, although some providers are offering new courses from September 2009. See our article Changes to the qualification process for solicitors or the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s LPC update page for details.
